The original campus plans for the University of Florida at Gainesville were developed by the firm of Edwards & Walter. Florida Blue Key was founded at the University of Florida in 1923 shortly before that year's homecoming celebration. It was conceived as a student leadership fraternity with an emphasis on service to the university and its constituencies. In 1924, Florida Blue Key was placed in charge of homecoming events and has organized every homecoming since then. Florida Blue Key is not affiliated with the national Blue Key fraternity.
